Care: | This is not a difficult cichlid to keep. A larger tank is needed because these fish can grow quite large. A small to medium sized gravel would probably be best along with several larger rocks to form caves and hiding places. This fish is found in some waters that are low in oxygen, but it would still be best to do weekly partial water changes to ensure best health. |

Breeding: | Breeding is very similar to the Convict cichlid. Pairs will form and select a spawning site which will usually be in some type of cave. Comments: | This is a very nice cichlid though it is not commonly seen. As this fish matures it will also develop a light blue color around the black blotches on the body. The black blotches will form vertical bars when showing aggression or defending a territory. |
