Care: | These barbs are schooling fish, and should be kept in groups of at least six. Gold barbs may be shy if kept in small numbers. They like to have areas of cover to hide in, but need lots of open swimming space, as they are active fish. |

Gender: | Males may be slightly smaller, but they have more intense coloring than females. |
Breeding: | Heat a fishtank to 75 degrees F, a small one will do. Make sure there are clumps of plants inside, as the barbs will spawn in them. Add one or more females to the tank, though one is best. At night, put one male in with the female, and they should spawn in the morning. Then, remove the pair from the tank, or the eggs will be eaten. |

Comments: | A very hardy, peaceful fish. They are recommended for beginning fishkeepers. Keep in mind though, this fish is different from the similar golden barb, Puntius gelius. |
